At the first week of this month, I went to the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, located in the north-east of Catalonia. The reason for the visit was a rare goose that was have seen a few days ago. It was an hybrid specimen between Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) and Barnacle (Branta leucopsis). Both species are rare in the Iberian Peninsula. When we arrived, we went to the information center to ask for the hybrid specimen. There said to us that there was a new observation of another rare goose: the Greater White-fronted goose (Anser albifrons). A little time later we were on the lookout ready to see the geese. The first geese we saw were the two specimens of Greater White-fronted goose. They were mixed with a group of Greylag geese (Anser anser), swimming across the wetland. After a moment, we find the hybrid goose, also mixted with some Greylang geese. Two rare species in one day!
We also saw other species more common but also interesting. These are some of them: Eurasian Wigeons, Northern Shovelers and Gadwalls, a group of Common Snipes, Mute swans, White Storks, flamingos, and at the evening some waders that we couldn't identify, they were probably Dunlins. We could also see a Common Buzzard few Black-headed gulls.
If you want to go one day to the Aiguamolls to see these two species, they still in there, so you know.
