En resum, una altra sortida satisfactòria que, a més de l'esperada migrant americana, va proporcionar una bona llista d'espècies observades i una gran tarda.

Tringa flavipes |
As a second part for the "twitching during spring break" chronicles, a Lesser yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) was seen near where I live, in a village called Pals (which is in the north-east of Catalonia). It is an american species with a quite impressive migratory behaviour, since it winters in South America and breeds around the north of Canada and Alaska. It is frequent vagrant to some European countries, and definitely very rare here in the Iberian peninsula. Long story short, I had to see it.
The area where the bird has been being seen these days is a kinda big wetland, where other waders can be seen too. Just when we arrived, we could see a Purple heron (Ardea purpurea) and a Subalpine warbler (Sylvia cantillans) even though they're species that are usually seen during summer here, and also a Wood sandpiper (Tringa glareola) and small group of three Garganeys (Anas querquedula). Other highlights were a Black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa), a group of Glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), Common ringed plovers (Charadrius hiaticula), Little stints (Calidris minuta) and Ruffs (Philomachus pugnax). After searching for some time, and right before sunset, we could locate the Lesser yellowlegs eating with a group of Common redshanks (Tringa totanus) and Black-winged stilts (Himantopus himantopus).
In conclusion, another satisfactory day in the field which not only provided great views of the rare flavipes but also a fantastic list of observed species.
